CHS Senior Caylor Scales Attends Virginia Electric Cooperative Washington Tour
Cumberland High School senior Caylor Scales was recognized by the Cumberland School Board at the September 2017 meeting for attending the Southside Virginia Electric 2017 Washington Youth Tour. She was one of seven students who represented the Southside Virginia Electric Cooperative, headquartered in Crewe.
Each June, more than 1,500 young people from around the United States head to Washington, D.C. as part of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association Youth Tour. Participants learned about the role that electric cooperatives play in a free enterprise system, especially as it relates to providing electric energy. In addition, students were exposed to issues that affect Southside and other electric cooperatives at the federal, state, and local levels.
The agenda for the tour included visiting Capitol Hill, where they met with members of Virginia’s congressional and senatorial delegation, and riding a boat down the Potomac River. They also had a chance to attend a major league game of the Washington Nationals.
Caylor plans to attend a United States Service Academy, with her first choice being the U. S. Military Academy in West Point, New York. She is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Jeff Scales of Cartersville.
