Cumberland School Board Recognizes Students for Attending Boys, Girls State Featured

Six girls from Cumberland High School were recognized at the August meeting of the Cumberland School Board for attending Girls States during the summer. Sponsored by the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary from Post 269, these students attended the program from June 19-June 23 at Longwood University. This was the largest group of young women to attend the program in over six years.

Two young men, sponsored by American Legion Post 269, were recognized by the School Board for attending Boys State. This weeklong program was held at Radford University from June 19-23.

Girls and Boys State provided the CHS students with the opportunity to learn the processes of state government, leadership, initiative, character, cooperation, honesty, physical fitness, and scholarship. All the attendees made presentations about what they had learned from attending their respective programs.
